CALLING ALL SENIORS!
If you are now a senior based on completed coursework, make sure that your intended graduation date is updated with the Cal Poly “changing your graduation term” form on the registrar website.
UNDERSTANDING PSY&CD INTERNSHIPS
There are TWO types of internships...
Fieldwork: Students gain experience working within local social service and governmental agencies, schools, businesses, and other organizations.
Research: Qualified students interested in research experience may find opportunities to work within faculty research labs. These positions are limited.
See our internships page for more detail.
FIELDWORK INTERNSHIP PROCESS
Internships in Winter 2025 are only available to students with senior standing or expected graduation dates of Winter 2025, Spring 2025, and Fall 2025.
Email Dr. Jessica Kaczorowski (jkaczoro@calpoly) with any general questions about internship.
INTERESTED IN A RESEARCH INTERNSHIP?
There are additional options beyond the 'research track' (applications due at beginning of Junior year). When faculty members are looking for research interns, we will post that info in the Tuesday Newsday. Another way to seek out research experience is to talk to your professors in office hours about your interest in research and whether they know of any projects or will keep you in mind for future projects. A few of our students have secured research internships with faculty in other departments at Cal Poly and in some cases it is possible to substitute internship units for the PSYCD internship requirements.
CALLING ALL JUNIORS - APPLY TO THE RESEARCH TRACK BY OCTOBER 18
Are you a junior PSY/CD major thinking about pursuing a Ph.D. after graduation? Consider applying to the department's Research Emphasis Track! The Research Emphasis Track aims to provide PSY/CD students who have a strong interest in pursuing a Ph.D. with an opportunity to participate in advanced independent research training. The track begins in junior year with a two-quarter research internship under the supervision of a faculty member and continues into senior year, culminating with a two-quarter independent empirical senior project. Applicants must be junior PSY or CD majors with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and major GPA of 3.5.
For more information on timeline and expectations, please see the attached information sheet, and check out this helpful video: https://youtu.be/OHiNXAUEICs
Below is a list of the faculty members who are potentially accepting new Research Track students this year. We encourage you to read about their research on their faculty webpage in order to find the best fit with your interests, and reach out to them to discuss their research further prior to applying (please do not apply to faculty members not on this list). This list will continue to be updated, so check back next week for any changes!

The California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education has been designed particularly to meet the needs of advanced undergraduates and master's candidates who belong to groups that are currently underrepresented in doctoral-level programs. Students will have the opportunity to meet representatives of the nation’s leading graduate schools offering Master’s and Ph.D. degrees and to attend workshops and panel sessions. In addition, students will have free access to a GRE prep course.
Priority forum registration is due M 10/7/24 by end of day. (Registration will remain open until all spaces are filled.)

Please contact egarc150@calpoly.edu with any questions!
The California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education, planned by a consortium of public and private colleges and universities from throughout California, have been designed particularly to meet the needs of advanced undergraduates and master's candidates who belong to groups that are currently underrepresented in doctoral-level programs. The groups include low-income and first-generation college students and especially African Americans, American Indians, Chicanos/Latinos, Filipinos, Pacific Islanders, Asian American women, and Asian American men in the arts, humanities, and social and behavioral sciences.
Each California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education will bring together approximately 1,000 pre-selected, high-achieving undergraduate and master's students enrolled at colleges and universities within California. The students will explore graduate opportunities and resources by participating in numerous workshops conducted throughout the day. Universities and individual graduate programs offering academic master's and/or Ph.D. degrees are welcome to participate in the recruitment fairs that will take place concurrently with the other planned activities. Note that these events are for all disciplines except programs in medicine, dentistry, optometry, chiropractic, pharmacy, veterinary science, and law, all of which have their own recruiting networks.
CAL Fresh: You may be eligible!
We are an on-campus organization known as CalFresh Outreach. We aim to raise awareness of student eligibility for CalFresh benefits, which can provide students with up to $291/month for groceries if they qualify.
Because of expanded eligibility through “Local Programs that Increase Employability (LPIEs),” an estimated ~15,000 students at Cal Poly are now eligible, even based only on their major. Approved programs include:
- most undergraduate majors in CLA
- every undergraduate major in CENG
- every undergraduate major in CAFES
- every undergraduate major in COSAM
- every undergraduate major in CAED
- most undergraduate majors in OCOB
- many grad programs
Enrollment in one of these majors alone could make a student likely eligible for CalFresh benefits (they must also meet basic eligibility criteria). This short survey is a great resource to explore eligibility & share with students: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CALFRESHQUIZ.
