Temporary Suspension of PSY Minor Applications 

• Due to the highly impacted nature of psychology courses, no new PSY minor applications will be accepted in 2021-22 (TBD when we will reinstate the minor - please check the PSYCD website in Fall 2022 for further updates).
• Psychology classes remain open to all students with the necessary prerequisites - feel free to take the courses that interest you even though you are not taking them "for" a minor. 
• Any student who will have completed PSY minor requirements by the end of Fall 2021 can still submit a minor application form and be awarded the minor. 
• Students who declared a PSY minor prior to FAll 2021 can proceed with their minor, but note that minors do not have priority enrollment in courses and there is no guarantee that you will be able to complete the minor. 
• We understand that the hold on the psychology minor program may be disappointing and we urge students with concerns to talk with their faculty advisors. Office Hours and Advising Opportunities
  • Please note that having a minor on your transcript is very unlikely to influence your career trajectory; rather, we can support you in highlighting the knowledge and skills you've gained in PSY courses and relevant experiences in a way that's far stronger than simply having a minor listed on your official documents.
  • For students who would like to add a minor to their academic record, we urge you to explore the wealth of other minor offerings at Cal Poly. See a complete list here.
• Note that the CD and Gerontology minors are continuing to accept applications.
• If you have already declared a minor in any field of study, but no longer plan to complete it, please fill out the "Drop Minor Request" form.  

Plan Ahead:  Schedule Information for 2021-22

• We have updated the Tentative Course Offerings page to reflect the courses we are offering this academic year. REMEMBER that things can change so check back often. Note that course mode is only provided for fall.  Winter and spring course modes are not yet finalized. And summer courses are not yet scheduled.

• PSY 458 and CD 411 will not be offered in 2021-22 or 2022-23.  If you are a PSY or CD major on the 2017-19 catalog who needs these classes to graduate, please consider the options below. If you would like to discuss an alternative substitution, email Dr. Jipson.

  • The best options for PSY 458 substitution are PSY 330, PSY 357, PSY 430, PSY 440, and PSY 480. Once you are enrolled in one of these classes, let Robyn Hastin know and she can initiate substitution approval paperwork.
  • The best options for a CD 411 substitution are CD 460, CD 356, or another upper-division CD course. Once you are enrolled in one of these classes, let Robyn Hastin know and she can initiate substitution approval paperwork.
    • Please note that all CD students still need to take CD 302. There is no substitution for this 2-unit course.

• PSY 344 Behavioral Genetics will not be offered in 2021-22. Please wait until 2022-23 or take BIO 302.  

• We will allow students who have not taken the GWR to enroll in CD 461 Senior Project Seminar this year. Email Robyn Hastin to be provided with a permission number.  (Note that this is not a prerequisite for PSY 461 so no permission number is needed for PSY students).

FIELDWORK INTERNSHIPS

LIMITED TO SENIORS GRADUATING IN OR BEFORE SUMMER 2022 

• Step 1: Watch the mandatory Internship Information presentation (link) by Friday, October 15 to learn how to secure an internship placement for Winter 2021. Access code is: aV7KH+!s 
  • Do I really need to watch this? 
    • You MUST watch the mandatory presentation IF you will be in your first quarter of field internship in Winter 2021 OR if you will be switching to a new internship site from Fall 2021.
    • You do NOT need to watch the mandatory presentation if you are staying at the same internship site from Fall 2021, OR if you are doing a research internship with a faculty member.
• Step 2: Complete the Internship Interest Survey by 10pm on Friday, October 15.  The survey link is provided in the mandatory presentation. Be sure you watch the entire presentation before you complete the survey.
  • Do I really need to complete the survey?
    • You MUST complete the survey if you are interested in doing any fieldwork internship regardless of whether it is your first internship, a new site, or a second quarter at the same site.
• Step 3 (optional): Attend a Q&A on Friday 10/15/21 from 1-2 p.m. at this zoom link: https://calpoly.zoom.us/j/81430663422
  • You must authenticate with your CP email to join the meeting. Be sure to review the video presentation PRIOR to attending the Q & A session.

• Please read more about internships, including prerequisites and field work sites, here. However, please note that some fieldwork sites on our list may be unavailable due to public health restrictions. In addition, some placements may require that interns be vaccinated.

RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS

• To explore the possibility of a research internship, please review faculty research interests on our faculty page. Not all faculty are accepting research interns at this time. To find out whether you might join a faculty research lab, attend the office hours for professors whose research activities match your interests.

Research Study Opportunity

Consider participating in an online research study that Dr. Stephanie Ries and Dr. Henrike Blumenfeld are running through SDSU's Speech-Language Pathology department. One of our very own Cal Poly students is a research assistant on this project.  They are looking for Spanish-English bilinguals, ages 18-80 to participate in this study. It takes about 2 hours to complete, and participants are sent a link and can complete it on their own time.

Little Wings is looking for a Preschool Teacher assistant who can help to create a fun learning environment. The Preschool Teacher will be responsible for supporting the lead teacher in monitoring and teaching the 2-6 year old children in our program. Current position will support with the 2/3 year old children in the morning and 2-6 year old combination children in the afternoon. Our school has a 50/50 combination of children with special needs and typically developing children in their class. This individual must have a passion for working with all children with different needs.
