PSY&CD SPOTLIGHT

For this week's PSY&CD spotlight feature, we are highlighting psychology student Connor Hardesty. Read more about him below!

Connor Hardesty, 4th year psychology student

In your opinion, where is the best place to get a sandwich in SLO?

The best place to get a sandwich in SLO is undoubtedly High St. Deli. They are definitely doing something special in that kitchen! I like to go after 4:20pm when the sandwiches are only $8.50.

What is your favorite season and why?

My favorite season is Summer. The sun gets hotter and my skin gets more tan. There is really nothing not to like about that June to August window!

What is your motto?

My motto is, "The unexamined life is not worth living, but the unlived life is not worth examining" which is an adapted quote from Socrates that I learned in one of my psychology courses. It reminds me to always have fun with my life, while still maintaining balance and discipline.

This act not only serves as a reminder to prioritize mental health but also encourages open dialogue, empathy, and resources for those who may be struggling. Cal Poly Senior Project: CASA 5k

CASA of San Luis Obispo County is a non-profit organization whose mission is to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children within the court system. CASA recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers who advocate for this vulnerable population with the goal of ensuring that each and every child grows up in a safe, nurturing, and permanent home. In celebration of May being national foster care month, come join us at the Cal Poly University Union plaza on Saturday, May 4th at 10:30am for a morning of running, walking, and fun! Whether you are a seasoned runner or just looking for a good time, this event is perfect for everyone. So lace up your sneakers and get ready to add a splash of color to your weekend. This event is the culmination of a psychology senior project in which 100% of the proceeds will be donated to CASA. Racers will be given a free race T-shirt, a Jamba Juice smoothie card, and will be able to enjoy a post-race celebration! SENIOR STANDING

CALLING ALL SENIORS!

If you are now a senior based on completed coursework, make sure that your intended graduation date is updated with the Cal Poly “changing your graduation term” form on the registrar website.

FIELDWORK INTERNSHIP PROCESS

Internships in Fall 2024 are only available to students with senior standing or expected graduation dates of Summer 2024, Fall 2024, Winter 2025, and Spring 2025. If you are junior or senior standing and plan to do your internship in Fall, you should be on the department's Field Internship Orientation canvas page (if not, please email bperal01@calpoly.edu to be added).

INTERESTED IN A RESEARCH INTERNSHIP?

There are additional options beyond the 'research track' (applications due at beginning of Junior year). When faculty members are looking for research interns, we will post that info in the Tuesday Newsday. Another way to seek out research experience is to talk to your professors in office hours about your interest in research and whether they know of any projects or will keep you in mind for future projects. A few of our students have secured research internships with faculty in other departments at Cal Poly and in some cases it is possible to substitute internship units for the PSYCD internship requirements. See below for info on the SURP summer opportunity.
