I am super excited to become a peer guide within the department! I am a psychology major, as well as a member of our Women’s Soccer team here at Cal poly. Hi everyone! My name is Astrid, and I’m a fourth-year Psychology student and a member of the Cal Poly Track and Field team, where I compete in pole vault. Outside of school and track, I enjoy staying active, spending time with friends, and traveling. After graduating from Cal Poly, I plan to attend graduate school for Speech-Language Pathology and eventually become a speech-language pathologist. I wanted to become a Peer Guide because, as a transfer student, I had a difficult time navigating Cal Poly when I first arrived. Figuring out requirements, resources, and who to go to for help caused me a lot of stress, and I would love to make that process easier for other students by being someone they can come to for guidance and support. This academic year, I’m looking forward to competing in my final track season as a Mustang, enjoying my remaining time at Cal Poly, and finishing my degree!

Hi Mustangs! My name is Skylar and I’m a 4th year Psychology major. I was born and raised in SLO county and I’m a transfer student from Cuesta College, just down the road! I just turned 30 and have experience as a First-Gen student returning to college after taking a period of time off. I’m also a Student with Dependents as I am the mama of 5 beautiful daughters! I spend a lot of time with them on the soccer field, at the beach and shuffling them around to all their activities. I have experience finding balance with a busy life and utilizing available resources both on and off campus. This year I am looking forward to graduating in the Spring and taking some time off before going back to school (again) for a Masters program. My goal is to use my degree to work with families, and eventually I would like to become a Physician’s Assistant. I am excited for the opportunity to become a Peer Guide to help ease the transition (and nerves!) of other students facing minor barriers and questions while navigating their time at Cal Poly.

Mondays wednesdays
5:00-6:00pm 1:00-3:00pm

"Hi! My name is Maya Williams. I am a 4th-year Psychology student with a minor in Ethics, Public Policy, Science, and Technology. I am from Encinitas California, and when I am not at the beach you can usually find me going to Pilates or yoga classes, hiking, running, surfing, reading, and hanging out with friends. After graduating, I plan to attend a master's program to broaden my opportunities and obtain a counseling license. I chose to become a peer guide because I know navigating the academic world can be overwhelming; there are so many programs and options, although sometimes it’s difficult to know where to look. I hope I can offer students the answers they are looking for and guidance to help them feel more confident in their path."

I also dance for SLO breakers and am a student liaison for TRIO. I plan to take my psychology degree the business route where I can get into sales and marketing consulting. I became a Peer Guide because I want to offer the same kind of support that seriously helped me when I was transitioning into Cal Poly and the Psychology Department. I’m looking forward to what this semester has to offer with a more lengthy, yet extensive pace. We’ll do this together!"
